Agricultural tarps for Burgess Farm

Coleambally is a town in the picturesque Riverina region. It is home to the Burgess farm which basks in the agricultural belt of NSW, enjoying natural flat plains, rich fertile soils and a warm climate. Steve from Burgess farms contacted the team at Polytex for advice and a suitable solution to protect his latest produce following the most recent harvest.

Rod from Polytex visited the Burgess farm to assess the area and measure a workable width and length for grain storage. Then, using the Polytex grain bunker calculator Rod advised Steve the most effective dimensions and grain capacity for the bunkers. The calculator not only assesses the angle of repose and capacity but the ground sheet and bunker cover dimensions.

Natural drainage is a key factor to assess when preparing for an on-farm grain bunker. There must be a gradient of at least 0.8 to ensure adequate drainage occurs. Rod offered his advice on both the tarp fabric and the best practice for applying the tarps. He suggested a polypropylene fabric Tarp with custom measurements to cover and protect the grain.

Steve was happy with the proposed solution and the tarp was delivered and ready on-site within a week of placing the order. Polytex offered concrete-filled tyres with lifting lugs to accompany Steve’s existing tyres. This was to enable the top tarp to be sealed to the ground sheets which allows for effective fumigation to be undertaken.

With the solution in place and the grain fully protected, Steve had this to say working with Polytex,

“We have been dealing with Rod from Polytex, Leeton for about 10 years. During that time they have provided with the most exceptional service and quality of products. We have used them primarily for the construction of ground sheets and bunker tarps using Landmark products. They have also constructed trailer tarps for us made to any design we wanted.

I have always found them to be very willing to help out where possible on short notice when we have been caught out. Not only have their products been good but they have stood by them and guaranteed their workmanship and products. There is definitely no other business I would consider using other than Polytex and Rod and Trent. Great work guys. Keep it up.”
